The Film Club, also known as MU Ciné Club, offers Millersville University students a forum for which they can watch and discuss cinema. Founded five years ago, The Film Club’s mission is to help the Millersville University community think critically about many of different aspects of film. The club selects a different focus each semester around a theme, director, or genre. This semester the club will center its attention on Cult Films, and will begin by showing the film Ed Wood, a comedy staring Johnny Depp and Bill Murray, and directed by Tim Burton. Other films being shown throughout the semester includes: Harold and Maude, This is Spinal Tap, Brazil, Army of Darkness, Night of the Living Dead, Serial Mom, and Donnie Darko.

All Millersville University students are welcome to join the club, and can do so by attending one of the scheduled screenings. Screenings begin at 6:30 p.m. in Myers Auditorium in McComsey Building, and membership is free. In addition, the Film Club is involved in many film-related activities. First, it screens films on campus and then discusses them afterwards. Second, it sponsors film-related events on campus. This year the club is sponsoring events of the Humanities Film Series. This includes: Chicago 10 held on Sept. 17  in Lyte Auditorium, Road to Guantanamo on Oct. 23 in Myers Auditorium, and Home, on Jan. 23 in Lyte Auditorium. Third, the Film Club goes to local film events and screening at the Capitol Theatre in York. Lastly, members of the club go to the Toronto International Film Festival, and leaves on Sept. 9.

Joining the Film Club is an outstanding way to get involved, meet new people, and expand your knowledge and appreciation of the art of film.  The club is looking for new student members who are eager and willing to increase their interest in the arts and humanities offered at Millersville University. Prospective members can expect a fun and friendly atmosphere at each film club meeting. For more information on the Film Club, contact the President of the club, Alisha Perez or faculty advisor Jill Craven.
