One game may not seem like a lot, but for the women’s volleyball team it was all it took to keep them out of postseason play.

Saturday the Lady Marauder’s went out with a bang as they defeated Kutztown 3-1.The Golden Bears hosted the match, which was the last of the Marauder’s season.

“Beating Kutztown was huge. I had some seniors who really wanted to beat Kutztown. It was a highlight for them,” said Head Coach Betsy Hayden. “It was something special because we beat them on their floor.”

Despite the weekend victory the Marauders ended their season one game behind East Stroudsburg leaving them out of the PSAC playoffs.

“They’re [ESU] in because they up upset Shippensburg at the start of the season; otherwise we would be in,” Hayden said.

The Marauders and the Warriors split when they played each other in the season.

Seniors Laura Navin and Kathy Howard made themselves known during the last match of their college careers. Navin racked up 21 digs, which was the team high. Howard managed eight digs and one assist to aid in the team victory. Junior Meredith Sinback led the team with 23 assists as well as eight kills. Junior Emily Bires led the Marauder attack with 10 kills.

The end of the season for the Lady Marauders was nothing like how it started. Halfway through their season the team attempted to turn their losing season into a winning one. They won six out of their last seven matches and won three of their last four PSAC games.

Hayden is already looking ahead to the next season. Over the off-season months she plans on having the athletes do individual workouts and a lot of weight training. The team will also see brief competition in the spring.

Next year the Marauders are planning on jumping out ready to play at the start of the season. With only two key players graduating they will be returning the majority of their team and will bring on board minimal new players. This will be different than the start of this past season when the team had nine freshmen and a new head coach.

Although the team did not make a playoff appearance this season Hayden is still positive about her team and her decision to coach here.

“I really like MU, it’s a great place to be…I am looking forward to a successful campaign next year,” Hayden said.
