Swimming fails to produce a win a in the new year.

After taking a month off from competition for the holiday break the swim team faces back to back losses this past weekend to Lock Haven and East Stroudsburg dropping them to 5-2 on the season.

“We did our best, we were loud and we swam with pride we just had a few bad touches. These two teams are our most closely matched competitors, we had a lot of close races and lost both meets closely,” said senior Karra Rapp.

Despite the losses Rapp was on her game finishing in the top of the 1,000 yard freestyle and the 50-yard backstroke.

Freshman Amie Mowery finished first in the 200-yard freestyle and freshman Breann Martinez earned a first place victory in the 50-yard butterfly.

“Our spirits are still up, were not giving up yet,” Rapp said.

As of now the women’s swimming team is putting the weekend behind them and working hard to make the rest of their season productive.

“I think to get back on track it is going to take a lot of hard work and getting mentally ready. Not dwelling on past races and just being ready to race when we get there,” said sophomore Lauren Puglia.

The Marauders are still working toward their start of the season goal which was to have as many swimmers as possible qualify for PSAC’s.

With two weeks to go till the PSAC race three Marauders are already qualified.

“I do know a lot more people are looking to qualify for PSAC’s. I feel that as long as people are getting personal bests and reaching their goals than our season will look good,” Puglia said. “Swimming is very individual and standings overall are done at PSAC’s.”

Individual qualifying swimmers will travel to PSAC’s as well as extra swimmers for the relay events.

With two weeks to prepare for their next meet the team is still increasing yardage during practice.

As the end of the season approaches the yardage will start to decrease. This practice is called taper.

The lady Marauders will have plenty of time to prepare for their next meet against Kutztown who is 8-2, as it is two weeks away on January 31.

“It will be nice to beat Kutztown but it will take a whole team effort and everyone stepping up to be the best that they can be,” Puglia said.
