Glorious sounds of the season

Season Opener brings Holiday Cheer

Despite the temperatures outside, inside at the Music of the Season Concert held at Lyte Auditorium Sunday November 22, it felt like the winter season had begun.


The concert featured music from Millersville’s own orchestra, concert band, and wind ensemble under the direction of Vera Volchansky, Keith Wiley, and Daniel Heslink. The musical piece “Flourish for Wind Band” was the show’s opening number, which set off the holiday mood for the night, followed by “Wayfaring Stranger.” Concert Band, known for their creative musical horizons and jazz background, performed two pieces, one of which was “Variants on a Moravian Hymn” that also included the MU Trombone Choir, who uniquely performed in the back of the auditorium which surprised the audience.

A winter classic “The Nutcracker,” which was a crowd pleaser, was performed by “The Chamber Winds.” “The March” and the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” were among the pieces performed. The Wind Ensemble is comprised of the most elite instrumentalists at Millersville University and their performance of “Music for the Royal Fireworks,” bedazzled the crowd.

The University Community Orchestr closed the show with the piece “Musical Forces Salute” combined with the Concert band, and the Wind ensemble. With a great crowd turnout, the performances were outstanding, and introduced the start of the holiday season.
