On Saturday afternoon the Marauder field hockey team lost their first road game of the 2012 season to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks by a score of 2-1.

The Crimson Hawks snapped the Marauders road streak by 1.Sotzin, No. 33. The game continued without either team scoring during the remainder of the half.

With most of the game played in a downpour of rain it was difficult for both teams to make substantial plays, but the plays made by Indiana were enough to keep the Marauders at bay.
It was in the 17th minute of the first half that the first goal was scored. After getting a breakaway opportunity Indiana’s Nicole Bruce managed to beat Millersville keeper Lauren Sotzin, No. 33. The game continued without either team scoring during the remainder of the half.
Millersville was the first to capitalize on a scoring opportunity when they received a corner 10 minutes into the second half. The corner was taken by Sarah Bomberger, No. 12, and shot at the goal by defender Rachel Dickinson, No. 14. The shot by Dickinson did not quite make it into the net until the ball was redirected by Millersville’s Champayne Hess, No. 4, who got the score.
The Crimson Hawks were quick to recover from the Marauders’ score when Bruce pushed a ball through the Millersville defense to a teammate who tapped the ball into the goal, giving Indiana a 2-1 advantage. For the rest of the game Millersville was kept to just 3 shots by the strong Indiana defense. The game ended with an Indiana victory.
The Marauders will take the field again when they face off against Kutztown University on Tuesday, September 11 at 4 p.m. at Beimesderfer Stadium.
