“Take Back the Night” came to Millersville University for its 11th year and still provides a forum for domestic and sexual violence victims to raise their voices against these issues.  Along with this open forum, there was a guest speaker and support and prayers from peers.  The Empower Peer Educators (EPE) hoped to gain as many participants as possible to support the cause.

All students should be aware of this event, because these issues affect people of all ages and genders.  It could happen to anyone.  The women’s and wellness center deals with human issues, not just women’s or men’s problems.

Additionally, EPE’s addressed the issues of violence against women through “The Clothesline Project,” a program that began in Cape Cod in 1990.  This event is a vehicle for all genders that were affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt, which can then be viewed by others.

“Both of these events are all about breaking the silence, on issues that tend to be swept under the rug and ignored,” explained Kaitlyn Pearson, committee chair for “Take Back the Night” and “The Clothesline Project.”

No matter who the student is, what they do or what they have dealt with- the EPE’s want to hear from them.
