In order to keep the Millersville Homecoming spirit alive, MU held their annual indoor and outdoor festival called the Fall Fling at the SMC. The festival took place on Saturday, directly after the community parade, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The event was open to the public and was well attended by students, families, and Millersville alumni. The entire event was free, except for the food, which was available for purchase.

Outside, the festival had an abundance of food tents promoting local and national businesses. The outdoor festivities had a carnival feel, which made the event more family and student oriented. The outdoor food festival featured different stands, which included a kettle corn booth, a J.R.’s booth, a smokehouse booth, a French fries stand, and free ice cream at the Turkey Hill booth.
After fulfilling their appetites, students, family members, and alumni were able to go inside to the Marauder Court, where they found multitudes of tables, both for sitting at and for displaying different student organizations. There were tables set up for alumni as well as for student clubs and groups.
The organization tables included Student Ambassadors, Millersville University Art and Design, University Activities Board, Circle K, and many others.

Michael London, a student helping at the Circle K table, says, “You could say that the Fall Fling was a great way for the clubs and organizations of Millersville to give back to the community.”
The event was a way for many clubs to become better known and to represent all the work they do for Millersville. Besides having tables inside, there were fair-related attractions with which attendees could interact. There was a balloon artist, a magician, a popcorn machine, and water ice being sold outside the gym doors.
There was live music and entertainment provided by Duane Slaymaker. Special appearances were made by the Philly Phanatic, which really brought a smile to the faces of the children who attended the event.
Overall, the event was well attended by students and alumni alike. The event was family friendly and a way for students to introduce their parents and siblings to what life is like as a Millersville student. The combination of fun activities and information about the University made this event the perfect way to celebrate Homecoming.

According to the Millersville University website, “The mission of Fall Fling is to promote Millersville University, strengthen the relationship between the University and the Millersville community and provide a place for Millersville University alumni and their families and friends to reconnect on campus.”
For students that are not currently involved with extracurricular activities, the Fall Fling was an excellent way for them to see many of the clubs our school has to offer.
The groups were able to advertise what they do, and how they are involved around campus, in the hopes of raising their membership numbers.
The Fall Fling was a great way to celebrate both the coming of the autumn season and the school pride made especially evident during Homecoming. In order to fully embrace the Homecoming spirit, many students attended the parade that morning, then attended the Fall Fling before heading over to watch the football game.
This event was able to bring the community together in an effort to truly celebrate the Homecoming of Millersville University.
