Ted Stachitas made his impressive debut after being forced out with an injury, throwing for three touchdowns.

The Marauder defense forced five turnovers, while Dominick Sanders and Mike Jones combined for four Marauder touchdowns leading the way to a convincing 35-0 victory on Homecoming Saturday, in front of 3,456 fans at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Millersville (2-5, 1-3 PSAC East) and Cheyney (1-6, 0-4 PSAC East) came into the game seeking their second win of the season and first PSAC East win of the year. The Marauder defense took advantage of an offense ranked 153rd out of 156 teams in total offense.
Millersville recorded its first shutout since October 2007. Quarterback Ted Stachitas returned after sitting out the last two games with an injury. Stachitas threw three touchdowns and completed 9-of-13 for 137 yards. “I was a little rusty there at the beginning,” said Stachitas. After a slow start, the Marauder offense racked up 286 yards which is slightly higher than their average for the year.
Cheyney’s first possession resulted in a three and out, forcing the Wolves to punt. Pat Cantrell blocked the punt which was recovered by Millersville’s Zack Riley at the Wolves 14-yard line. However, Millersville could not capitalize on the turnover and great field position.
The first play from scrimmage resulted in a Stachitas interception by Shannon Burch which ended the scoring threat. Three plays into the second quarter, Stachitas found
Sanders for a seven yard touchdown pass, completing and eight-play, 65-yard drive. Millersville took the lead 7-0 with 14:04 left in the first half.
Millersville’s next scoring drive was sparked by an excellent 23 yard punt return down to the Cheyney 20-yard line by Lou Brown. Connor Casey entered the game with 4:23 left in the half. After Casey completed two passes, Cheyney was then called for a pass interference which put the Marauders on the one. Jones then powered his way into the end zone and the Marauders extended their lead to 14.
Cheyney was successful on two fourth down conversions on their last drive of the first half. The Wolves attempted a 30-yard field goal with 17 seconds left in the half but missed it wide left. Millersville lead 14-0 at halftime.
To open the third quarter, Stachitas moved the ball quickly down the field connecting with Brent Collins on a 34-yard completion. Stachitas then scampered for a 22-yard run to the Cheyney 8. On the next play, Stachitas threw a beautiful back shoulder throw to Sanders for his second touchdown reception of the afternoon. “If we can protect
him and give him time, which we did today for the most part, he’s going to pick some people apart,” said coach Colby. Millersville now led 21-0.
With 11:17 left in the final quarter, Jones caught a pass and used his speed to fly down the home sideline for a 45-yard score, Jones second touchdown of the game.
The final scoring play of the afternoon came with 1:40 to go when Casey hit Mike Reichnenbach for a 17-yard TD pass, Reichenbach’s first career touchdown.
The Wolves offense was unable to take advantage of four Millersville turnovers. Cheyney out rushed Millersville by more than 100 yards and had 294 yards in total offense.
Millersville’s opportunistic defense and Cheney’s inability to protect the football proved to be costly. Jordan Rigby and Pat Maloney combined for 22 tackles and teammate Jamie Thomas forced a fumble and recovered two for the Marauders. Kyle Wolfe recorded the first sack of his career helping Millersville shut out Cheyney 35-0 on Homecoming.
Millersville breaks their five game losing skid, “No one likes to lose,” said Stachitas. “Coming out here and getting a big win felt good.” Millersville will travel to LIU Post (2-4, 1-3 PSAC East) next Saturday. The game is set to kickoff at 1 PM.
