In their final home game, Millersville failed to stop West Chester.

Saturday’s game between the # 6 Lady Marauders and the #2 Golden Rams, marked the final home game of the season.
It was homecoming weekend and the team’s six seniors were honored prior to the start of the game as it would be the last of their college careers. The game did not play out as the team hoped, with the girls being shut out by the Rams 2-0. West Chester scored early, with Alexis Versak getting it started seven minutes into the first period and was assisted by Abbey Hordendorf.
They scored again near the end of the period at 3:15 when Michele Schrift took a shot from outside the circle and Kayla Gluchowski managed to redirect it, beating Millersville goalie Lauren Sotzin.
The Marauders were outshot 15-3 and the girls failed to register a single shot on net. The girls were outplayed by the Golden Rams in all areas of the game, offense, defense and goaltending.
The most noticeable difference was in defense, where the Rams dominated and managed to effectively shut down the Millersville offense. The girls failed to solve or find cracks within the West Chester defense and were no match for the number two Rams.
Sotzin was not terrible in net, making four saves on six shots, but was tagged with the loss as she received no help offensively. The defense of the Lady Marauders, while not as strong as West Chester, was still there and made some big plays especially on the many corners attempted by the Rams.
Clearly, the loss was not due to goaltending or defense, but rather offense, where the girls were stifled. It was frustrating as each time the girls entered the offensive zone, they were pressured which caused them to commit many turnovers.
The loss not only put a damper on homecoming but also halted the Marauders three game win streak. The girl’s next game is October 16 against Long Island University with a start time of 4 p.m.
