Well, it started even earlier this year! It seems to be getting worse with each passing year, like a viral plague that never stops. What I am referring to is this obnoxiousness people tend to call “Christmas Cheer.” I visited the mall a week and a half before Thanksgiving this year and Santa’s workshop was already set up, and there hung all the Christmas crap and the Christmas music loop was already in full swing. That’s enough already, I can’t take much more! Some of us don’t believe in this absurd and ridiculous overhaul of Christmas celebration, it’s as if people have seriously lost the true meaning of what Christmas is supposed to be all about.
Oh, and don’t even get me started on the movies…how many Christmas movies can one person possibly see in a lifetime. I have more then seen my fair share and I’m only in my twenties. The holidays are not a real cheerful, happy time for everyone. For some of us the holidays bring up not-so-great memories and remind us of the hardships we’ve had to endure over the years. Besides all that, I want to be able to celebrate the way I feel fit. I prefer not to get a “Christmas spirit” lecture every time I make a disgusted face when I feel like a Christmas bomb has just gone off in someone’s front yard. I mean really how many Christmas lights does one house really need?
Also, if I want to “BAH-HUMBUG” around town I have every right to do so. I am SO sick of these Christmas aficionados trying to tell me how I should be acting this time of year. Christmas just isn’t my thing, and once again having carols and candy canes shoved down my throat every step of the way is not beneficial. Just tone it down a few notches. On a scale of one to ten, Christmas is ranking off the charts when it comes to making me physically nauseas. How much Christmas is one human being supposed to endure?
Look, you may decide to deem me a Grinch after reading this…well damn right I am and I’m not afraid to admit it either! It is my prerogative if I want to be that way, just like it is other people’s to be Christmas nuts. Don’t get me wrong, I like to celebrate a good time just as much as the next person but there are certain lines that can be crossed and they are being experienced in this day and age. Do Frosty and Rudolph really need to stand like ten feet tall in the middle of someone’s yard…I don’t think so.
It is time to get a handle on this holiday called Christmas. Take two steps back and just look around you! Isn’t it a little much? I’m sorry for those of you who are offended by my abrupt directness, but sometimes someone needs to say these things. I know the majority of you may be thinking it, maybe not quite to my personal extent (but you catch the drift), but perhaps thinking, “wow this is slightly over-the-top.” Christmas is supposed to be a holiday that is celebrated, yes, but it is not meant to be an explosion of absurdity. When everyone starts to remember what the true meaning of Christmas is all about, let me know so then I can join in on the celebration too. Until then…it’s Grinchmas in my world!
