On Saturday the women’s basketball team traveled to Lock Haven for their PSAC opener, where they were able to grab their first PSAC win of the season.
Millersville (4-0) fell behind Lock Haven (2-3), but that did not last long, when in the second half of the game the Marauders were able to make a come back and take the lead. The game ended with a score of 72-49.
Near the end of the first half, it looked like Millersville was only going to have an eight-point lead over Lock Haven. With three seconds left on the clock Mashira Newman was able to get the ball to Aurielle Mosley behind the three-point arc landing her one of three assists, increasing the lead to 11.
The second half Millersville was able to blow past Lock Haven with a 22-0 run. For a short amount of time at the beginning of the second half Lock Haven was able to keep their distance from Millersville, but that didn’t last long when Senada Mehmedovic made a three and a lay up adding five more for the Marauders. Alexis Martin made a layup that gave the Marauders the 33-point advantage at the end of the game.
Carly Gallagher was the leading scorer, with a game-high of 18 points, which tied her career-high. Mashira Newman ended with 17 points, making 5-of-8 threes. Senada Mehmedovic scored 11 points against Lock Haven, she was the conferences leading scorer coming into the game, scoring 21 points per game in the first two games of the season.
Aurielle Mosley had nine points, seven rebounds, four of the teams six blocks and three steals. Celeste Robinson led the team in rebounds, with a total of nine, which was the most she had in a game this season. She scored five points and shared the lead of having three assists with Newman.
Millersville forced Lock Haven into 29 turnovers, scoring 24 points off of turnovers alone. Lock Haven was only able to score four points off of 22 turnovers from Millersville.
This is the sixth-straight season Millersville has started there season 3-0. They have beat Lock Haven seven straight meetings since the 2006 season. The Marauders will be hosting Bloomsburg in Pucillo, Saturday at 1 p.m.
