The Millersville men’s golf team competed in the IUP Golf Invitational last weekend, and in each match looked like two completely different teams. The guys got off to a slow start in the first round, where they finished with a combined score of 313. Matt Lutz had the teams best score for the day, shooting a 76, followed by Robert Coyne who shot a 79 for the round. The second round was a completely different story for the Marauders as the guys played a solid round of golf. Coyne scored a 71 for the round, giving him a combined score of 150 and finished 16th in the tournament. Rob Rowe, who shot an 80 for the first round ended the day with a 75 and finished tied for 32nd with Lutz who shot a 79 for the round. Conor Gilbert improved upon his first round score of 78, by shooting a 76 for the final round, and finished the tournament tied for 26th. Jon Heile, who recorded an 81 in the first round, followed that up with a 79 for the second, and finished the day tied for 49th place. The teams second round score was 301, giving them a total score of 614 points and tying them for sixth place overall out of 15 teams. In first place was California University with a combined score of 587, followed by IUP who tied with Davis & Elkins for second with a score of 593. The sixth place finish brings the guys one step closer to earning a bid to the NCAA regionals and they are back in action April 21 when they will compete in the California Invitational.
