On Friday April 12, 2013, fraternity TKE (Tau Kappa Epsilon) hosted a concert benefiting St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
As attendees arrived at the concert they were greeted by members of TKE at a table outside of the MPR. Red wrist bands were given to everyone that attended and tickets were sold at the door for ten dollars each. TKE members also sold concessions, a table representing TKE with a jar for donations and more importantly, two more tables selling raffles at 50 cents each for prizes such as a concert shirt along with two wrist bands, a $300 guitar custom made by Andrew Wagner, $105 in gift cards for Visa, Regal Cinemas, Subway, and iTunes, and finally a summer basket donated by ASA with beach essentials such as sunglasses, a frisbee, Hawaiian lays, and a shovel and pail.
Security was rather tight at the entrance by MUPD, everyone were to take everything out of their pockets, girls had their bags checked and every individual was “wanded” for anything metal that might be in their clothing. Although this was surprising, it ensured a safe atmosphere for the duration of the concert.

Philadelphia rap group Yeswerill opened the concert with a fun and high-energy performance.

Yeswerill, a three member rap group from Philadelphia, opened the concert with several songs and kept attention of the crowd with their humor and high energy the entire performance. Interacting with the crowd and dancing on stage gave a unique and upbeat start to the concert with good vibes. Native Maze, a popular progressive jam band from Lancaster, was the second band to play that brought the energy of the concert to an easy going and relaxed feel. Simply Perfect, a band from Pottsville, was the third band to perform continuing the great music throughout the night. Young Black from Hatfield, was the fourth and final performer wrapping up the concert with great talent. In between each performer, a small break was given to set the stage and announce winners of the raffles, keeping the night running just as planned.
Jon Light, member of TKE, could be seen walking all around the concert interacting with many who attended and made sure everything had run just as planned. Jon explained the process of putting together this concert began in September because they wanted a jump start on the process. Meetings were held just about every other week keeping their plans in line to follow through. Every year, TKE holds an event for the National Philanthropy and St. Jude Children’s Hospital in which Jon said “It’s not about making money or receiving attention, we just want to help.” Other members of TKE had said “it was a long and at times difficult process but it was worth it for the cause.” Once all money is accounted for, proceeds will go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

TKE gives a special thank you to IFC who donated a generous amount to help the brothers with their concert. They would also like to specially thank the MUPD for their services and time, and anyone else who has volunteered to help this night run smoothly.
Overall, the night ran smoothly and TKE did just what they intended to do and that was to raise money for a good cause. Be sure to look out next year for TKE’s annual benefit event that supports a good cause and shows their hard work they put in to host the event.
