Cross country competes in 2013 Alumni Open

Saturday marked the start of the season for the Millersville cross country team with the running of the 2013 Alumni Open. The event was held at Freedom Borough Park and allowed university alumni to compete against current students. 2012-2013 alumni who participated in the event include Sarah Fink, who is now a member of the coaching staff and finished in seventh in the Women’s 5000 Dash. Also running was Kate Rhue and Bekah Moore who finished 14th and 15th respectively. Mallory Austin and Whitney Savoy also returned to run in the event and placed 17th and 21st, respectively. 1991 Alumna Andrea Kramer returned to participate in the race and finished fourth. Freshman Shannon Cruz finished in first place, crossing the finish line with a time of 18:55. Megan Meyer followed a minute later in second place with Amanda Long right behind her in third. Brittney Martin finished in fifth place with a time of 20:39 and Kaitlin Hild finished in sixth with a time of 20:41.
The Men’s 5000 Dash was won by 2013 alumni Conner Veres who crossed the finish line in a time of 16:23. In second place was returning 2011 alumnus Josh Foulds with a time of 17:00 and in third with a time of 17:15 was Kevin Diflorio. 2011 alumnus James Boyer returned to run a time of 17:17, finishing in fourth place. In fifth place was Alex Cruz who crossed the finish line with a time of 18:42. Other notable finishes include Andrew Musselman who ran a time of 18:47 and placed sixth in the event. Jeff Heger crossed the finish line in 20:28, placing eleventh in the event. The cross country team will be back in action September 14th for the Division II Challenge, which will be held at Kutztown University.
