‘Don Jon’ receives mixed reviews

Zachariah Swope
Staff Writer

“Don Jon” is the directorial debut of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It is fairly modest and it is actually interesting. Joseph Gordon-Levitt even takes up acting duties in the film as well as the main character, Jon. It should be noted that this is one of the better original films to come out this year.

Don Jon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Barbara, Scarlett Johansson, create a witty friendship.

“Don Jon” revolves around the character Jon who is addicted to porn. When he meets the “woman of his dreams,” Barbara, played by Scarlet Johansson, he goes through a change. He starts becoming an entirely different person, even promising to give up on porn, though he breaks that promise. The whole movie revolves around this and yes, it does get repetitive towards the end.
The acting in the film is alright. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is fairly good. Unfortunately for ScarJo fans out there, it is worth mentioning that she is not great in her performance. It felt forced. Then again she is mostly there for eye candy. The main cast is nicely supported by Tony Danza and Julianna Moore (who plays a big part in the story).
“Don Jon” is worth seeing if you have the stomach for the subject matter. It is an interesting story dealing with addiction. Plus side? It shows Joseph Gordon-Levitt can do more than just act.
