Looking for some fall fun this month? Only a short ride from Millersville, Cherry Crest Adventure Farm has a wide variety of activities in the spirit of fall. From apple cider to hay bales to corn, Cherry Crest Adventure Farm is a quaint October scene.
For a fee of $15, the public can enter the 15-acre farm and begin to explore all it has to offer. This includes pedal karts, a farm tour wagon ride, a petting zoo, games, a pick-your-own program, bonfires, corn and hay bale mazes, and much more.
Riding along a bumpy ride on hay bales, the Farm Tour Wagon ride is not only scenic, but informational. The public can view the behind-the-scenes of the working farm, which include cattle, poultry, and farming operations. Cherry Crest is a “green” operation and this ride provides information about the farm’s conservation programs.
Cherry Crest also offers a pick-your-own program. At the back of the farm are fields of pumpkins and corn, waiting to be picked. The farm highly recommends the corn for perfect popped corn. The pumpkins are of all different sizes, ready to use for carving on Halloween.
The farm’s most popular attraction is their Amazing Maize Maze. Each season, Cherry Crest chooses a theme for the maze. This year’s theme was “High Seas Adventure.” The 5-acre corn field was transformed into a three mast tall ship. The shape of the ship is carved neatly with 2.5 miles of paths.

Maze-goers must efficiently navigate the paths of sea monsters and mermaids to reach the “lost treasure” at the end. The maze also offers an interactive game. The game gives three levels of play – easy, intermediate, or advanced. Along the paths are 15 hidden pieces to find and, when found, will complete a treasure map. This treasure map is the ticket out. Maze-goers do not have to play along with the interactive game, but it is an option.
On Friday and Saturday nights, the maze is open until 10 p.m. During this time, the public can grab their flashlights and explore or race through the maze under the moon. It is a different way to enjoy the maze, and can add a little more difficulty.
This past Friday, Millersville University’s Student Alumni Association went for a group night. Elizabeth Reidenbaugh, a member of the Student Alumni Association, said “that going to Cherry Crest was a fun thing to do with my friends.” She also felt that “between the apple cider, pumpkins, and corn maze, it really put me in the spirit for fall.”
Cherry Crest Adventure Farm also has a wide range of food options. From homemade fudge and kettle corn to apple cinnamon doughnuts and cold apple cider, farm-goers will have their taste buds tingle with the tastes of fall.
For something different, check out Cherry Crest Adventure Farm for their annual Pumpkin Madness Festival. From noon to 6 p.m., the public can come and smash, tramp, roll, throw, and destroy an endless amount of pumpkins. There will also be a yummy pumpkin-inspired menu.
Cherry Crest Adventure Farm is open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Their fall season ends on November 9th, so join in the fall fun before it finishes out.
