All relationships take work. It doesn’t matter if it is with a friend, a family member, a boyfriend, or girlfriend. They all take a decent amount of work and require effort on both parts.
It takes even more work when you’re not physically with your significant other. There are three different types of long distance relationships for college students. Your boyfriend or girlfriend could attend a different college then you, he or she could still be in high school, or they could not attend college.
The first step in entering a long distance relationship is to decide if it is worth it. Was this person a summer or high school fling or someone that could potentially be something serious? If there any sort of doubt, then being in a long distance relationship is not recommended.
heartphoneIt is extremely important to trust this person. No one needs to constantly be worrying about what his or her boyfriend or girlfriend is doing. Trusting this person or the relationship will be exceedingly difficult. Trust is the foundation in any relationship, but especially in a relationship in which you do not get to see the person everyday.
Long distance relationships can be incredibly difficult for some while for others it seems like no big deal. Typically, it is thought of as more difficult. Not being able to spend as much time with your boyfriend or girlfriend as you would like takes a toll on people.
The best thing that can be done is to have frequent communication. Communication is key in any relationship and it is important to talk to your significant other as often as possible. However, phone calls, video chatting, and text messages are not the same as being face to face with someone.
Try to visit him or her as often as possible. There is no technology in the world that can beat face-to-face communication. As hard as it may be to be without your boyfriend or girlfriend in the lonely world of college, it is important to remember that things that are meant to be will be.
There is no point in stressing over a relationship. If there is more time spent stressing over it, then actually enjoying it, the relationship is not worth it. The ending of a relationship is not the end of the world. If the relationship is meant to work out, it will work out.
Distance can either make the heart grow fonder or realize that it is time to let go. In a way, distance is a blessing in disguise. It can help one to grow on his or her own and find out what they truly want.
