With the Marauders sitting pretty at a 13-1 record and a No. 2 ranking, it comes as no surprise that players are beginning to receive recognition.
Such is the case for Senior Champayne Hess as she was given the well-deserved title of PSAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Week. In their last three games, all won, Hess totaled an outstanding nine points.
The team’s success has not been easy: so far they have defeated the No. 4 team (West Chester), No. 8 (Limestone), and Newberry. In these three games, Hess recorded four goals on just six shots and an assist, registering at least a point per game.
Of her success, Hess managed to score a game-winning goal against Limestone in a close 2-1 victory, and three goals alone against Newberry.
The award is the first of Hess’ career, and seemingly won’t be her last. She is putting together a career season, leading the team with eight goals, and ranks second, with 19 points total. Her two game-winning goals on the season are tied for a team first.
The field hockey team’s next game has them playing on the road against East Stroudsburg, which could prove to be an easy win for the Marauders, especially with Hess at the helm.
