The women’s volleyball team kept rolling this weekend, beating West Chester on Friday and Cheyney on Saturday. The lady Marauders are currently boasting a five-game win streak and moved above .500 on Friday for the first time since the 20th of September.
On Friday Millersville (14-2, 9-8 PSAC) beat the West Chester Golden Rams (13-14, 5-11 PSAC) 3-1, ending a 15-game losing streak against them that stretched back to 2005.
After going up 10-2 in the first set, Millersville let the Golden Rams inch back to a score of 24-23. But Kayla Wallace ended it with a kill, sealing it 25-24.

In a tremendous weekend, the volleyball team was able to defeat West Chester, and an unintimidating Cheyney team.

The Marauders lost an early 2-0 lead in the second set, and never gained it back. Five kills and eight errors led to a disappointing -.186 hitting percentage for the Marauders in the second set. A 25-20 loss derailed any momentum they gained from the first set.
The points went back and forth for much of the third set, leading to a 17-17 tie. But a kill by Millersville’s Mary Paul sparked a three-point run from the Marauders, putting them up 20-17. Clean play from there led the Marauders to a 25-21 victory.
The fourth set was the best of the night for the Marauders. They went on a four-point run to take the early 9-4 lead. Later with the score 21-19 the Marauders went on another four-point run to finish the night. Millersville hit their best in the fourth set with 16 kills and six errors; good enough for a .241 hitting percentage.
Paul led the Marauders with a .474 hitting percentage, posting 10 kills to only one error in 19 attempts. Katie Lasinski also added 13 kills. Jessica Franz led with 20 assists. Erika Smith also had 17 assists.
Millersville traveled to Cheyney, Pa. on Saturday and swept their matchup against the lowly Cheyney Wolves (5-23, 0-18 PSAC) for their fifth win in a row. The Marauders took the sets easily, at 25-13, 25-15, and 25-16.
Millersville started and ended strongly, posting a team .318 hitting percentage in the first set, and a .306 hitting percentage in the third set. Kayla Wallace led the team with 12 kills. Rebecca Roman was next with nine kills. Franz and Smith each had over twenty assists, posting 22 and 21 respectively.
With their win on Saturday, Millersville now leads the all-time record against Cheyney 38-0. After beating Cheyney, the Marauders are now 10-5 since the beginning of October, and 5-2 at home during that span. Millersville’s next home matchup is Friday, Nov. 8th against East Stroudsberg.
