Pucillo Gymnasium was the site for the women’s basketball team disappointing loss to Adelphi University this past Sunday, as their home opener did not go quite as planned.
With an impressive 59.3 shooting percentage, the Panthers of Adelphia were able to stop the Marauders in the tracks with a 95-53 victory; the most lopsided loss for Millersville since 1990. The Marauders are now 3-2 on the season, while Adelphia continues their dominance remaining undefeated with a 6-0 record.
With nine points each, Celeste Robinson and Senada Mehmedovic led the Millersville offense, with Robinson also bringing down seven rebounds. Redshirt Junior Alexis Martin tallied four points for her first game of the season.
As the Marauders led 6-5 just two minutes in, the Panthers saw an opening and went on an incredible 33-4 run, giving them a 38-10 lead. Adelphi made 25 of their 36 shots from the floor, including 6-of-8 three-pointers in the first 20 minutes of play. Unable to bounce back from the sudden attack, the Marauders entered halftime trailing 64-23.
Millersville was outscored in the paint by a margin of 48-18, and reached their closest within the Panthers when the score reached 74-39. After the disheartening loss, the Marauders look to rebound and stop the Rams of West Chester on Wednesday night at Pucillo, with the tipoff set for 6 p.m.
