This year’s awards season has officially begun. With the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and the Grammys taking place, audiences were able to see some jaw-dropping performances and equally jaw-dropping fashions. The most highly acclaimed actors and musicians in the entertainment world tried their best to make their entrance onto the red carpet spectacular, gathering together to celebrate a great year in movies and music.
Like every year, the red carpet showed us some of the most ravishing gowns worn by actresses and musicians. Some of the most talked about looks came from Golden Globe winners and Oscar nominees Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, and Cate Blanchett. Lawrence looked stunning wearing Dior, sporting a strapless white and black gown at the Golden Globes and a sequined navy blue gown at the SAG Awards. This gown made her look like she had just stepped out of a ‘70s disco. Adams impressed with a retro look possibly inspired by American Hustle, wearing a crimson Valentino halter gown with a plunging neckline and Lorraine Schwartz jewels at the Golden Globes. The actress also wore form-fitting cobalt Antonio Berardi gown with an sparkling silver belt at the SAG Awards.
Cate Blanchett looked entrancing on the red carpet as well, wearing a black lace cap-sleeved gown by Armani and a light-pink column Givenchy dress with sequin accents. Another striking look came from Twelve Years a Slave break-out actress SAG Award winner and Oscar nominee, Lupita Nyong’o. Many were talking about her red-caped Ralph Lauren gown she donned at the Golden Globes. The turquoise Gucci gown she wore at the SAG Awards also gave her fashion credit, which had a beautiful floral-accented collar. Other actresses who impressed were Olivia Wilde, Naomi Watts, Emma Watson, Margot Robbie, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sofia Vergara, Amy Poehler and Elisabeth Moss.
The stars at the Grammys were also dressed their best for the evening. Taylor Swift stood out as the most elegantly dressed, wearing a metallic gold Gucci dress with capped sleeves. Her black and pink Carolina Herrera dress she donned at the Golden Globes was also a hit. Beyoncé wowed the crowd not only with her opening performance with Jay-Z, but with her curve-hugging cream Michael Costello lace-embroidered gown. Alicia Keys looked gorgeous wearing a royal-blue Armani gown with a plunging neckline. Country star Miranda Lambert showed off her weight loss wearing a dark red Pamella Roland gown, looking very classy. Many were also talking about Katy Perry’s unique look, wearing one of Valentino’s newest gowns. The gown was a sheer off-white printed with musical notes. It fit for the occasion, as it was music’s biggest night of the year.
Of course, there were plenty of men that looked great on the red carpet as well. Some of the most dapper looks came from Leonardo DiCaprio, Usher, Bradley Cooper, Matthew McConaughey, John Legend, Robin Thicke, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The looks varied from the classic black tux to swanky velvet suits.
Unfortunately, there were plenty of looks that were considered not very impressive. Paula Patton’s skin-tight white ruffled dress at the Golden Globes turned out to be quite a mess. Paris Hilton’s white House of Milani embellished gown with nude panels was a bit too risqué. Nobody can forget about the large vintage Vivienne Westwood mountie-style hat Pharell Williams donned at the Grammys. The hat ended up being compared to the Arby’s logo and warranted many laughs.
Award season is always grand because of the winners and the nominees, but the looks the stars model always seem to steal the crowd’s attention. Sometimes the right dress says it all. The Oscars will be airing in late March. Viewers will be able to decide who is best and worst dressed when they tune in. There will be plenty of looks to see.
