Calling all Millersville English majors! The Department of English is pleased to announce a brand new award that is being made available to students who have taken or who are currently taking English 405: Shakespeare.
shakespeareThis award is named in memory of Dr. Cynthia Dilgard, who was a longtime professor of English at Millersville University, notably in Shakespeare Studies, and the former chairperson of the English Department, who passed away in 2013.
If a student has taken English 405 (or is currently enrolled in the class) and would like to be considered for the monetary award, fill out the application form that was linked to their myVILLE e-mail account or obtain a copy of the application from the English Department. Students must write a short essay on the prompt included on the form.
The essay prompt:

Go to your bosom:
Knock there, and ask your heart what it doth know.

Measure for Measure
Act II, scene 2, lines 136 -137

How has reading and studying Shakespeare’s poetry and plays affected your life? Has it changed your approach to the future, the present, the past? In a brief essay (no more than 500 words), please explain the effect studying Shakespeare has had on you.
The essay and completed form must be turned into the English Department office in Chryst building no later than Friday, March 7th, 2014. The winner will be chosen based on:

1.) Verifying the Shakespeare class on the student’s transcript/schedule.
2.) By the excellence of the student’s essay.

If any student has any additional questions regarding this scholarship opportunity, contact Dr. Kim McCollum-Clark or visit the English Department office.
