Single and looking for some company? Consider participating in a date auction for charity taking place this Wed., March 26 at 7 p.m. in the Club De Ville.
“You can either choose to volunteer to go on a date or you can volunteer to bid. Right now, we could use some more guys to sign up,” said Zachariah Swope, the MU student who came up with the idea for the event.
Swope and four other MU students will be hosting the event: Brittany Shoemaker, Victoria Kramer, Addie Cannizzaro and Brittany Martin. When Swope found out that their small group communications class required them to acquire a certain number of volunteer hours, he suggested they host a date auction, an event that Swope had participated in while he attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia.
The students chose to sponsor the Random Acts of Kindness charity because they liked what the organization stood for, and all proceeds that they raise will be going towards the charity.
“I am excited to see what happens,” said Shoemaker, of the event.
“We are hoping to make it a fun experience to remember,” added Kramer.
Never been on a date auction? Don’t worry; it is not the serious event you are imagining. Participants will be announced by the information they provide on a personality card prior to the event, and will be auctioned off to the song of their choice playing. All bids start at a minimum of $2, and after bidding has come to a close, couples will sit down for a dinner for two. A party sub dinner will be provided and served to individual tables in the Club De Ville.
All MU students and their guests are welcome to partake in the fun, and should register for the event through contacting Swope by texting or calling his number, 717-465-8602. You can still register for up to one hour before the event, but should sign up as soon as possible to ensure a slot.
