Men’s soccer started their season at home Friday versus the Pfeiffer Falcons of Richfield, North Carolina. Millersville came into the game ranked number 20 after the release of the Division II preseason poll. Pfeiffer seemed to embrace the underdog role, and got off to a fast start by launching two quick goals past freshman goalkeeper David Brubaker.

The score remained 2-0 going into the half with Millersville still having the chance to tie things up in the in the next 50 minutes of play. But an unfortunate foul inside the penalty area led to a spot kick conversion, and a commanding 3-0 lead by the Falcons. However this did not phase the relentless Marauders, as they quickly rallied, and scored two quick goals thanks to the footwork of Ahmed Waisi and Johnathan Dadeboe.

After 80 minutes of play, and with Millersville within one goal, fans found themselves shocked as Pfeiffer scored a goal with under two minutes left in the match. But it wasn’t long before fans were back on their feet, as they watched forward Jesse Zimmerman execute a perfectly placed corner kick headed in by Zach Brier, cutting the lead back to one with 16 seconds remaining.

Unfortunately for the Marauders 16 seconds were not enough, and after the final whistle blew Millersville found themselves on the losing end of their season opening match.

The Marauders take on WV Wesleyan Sunday afternoon.
