Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. the psychology department held its annual picnic in front of Byerly. The tradition to start off the new semester has been taking place for more than 20 years. According to Dr. Foster-Clark, head of the Psychology department, it has been happening for quite some time, but he can’t pinpoint a start-up year.

Foster-Clark gives credit to Psy Ki and Psychology Club for organizing the event. The advisor for both is Dr. Vredenburg -Rudy. The purpose of the picnic is to kick start the year. “[It’s also an] introduction to the faculty,” Dr. Foster-Clark said.

Faculty members were nominated for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by Psy Ki. Dr. Foster-Clark and Dr. Thyrum had ice water thrown on them. The Psychology Club had a table where interested students could sign up. A game involving American psychology facts was set up by the Psychology Club. Food and music was provided.

Some improvements are being made to the psychology department. Byerly’s interior was renovated in time for the new semester. The psychology department’s newest faculty member is Andrew Blan. He is a professor for clinical psychology. As the semester continues, the department will have a colloquium series in which professionals come in to speak to students. Foster-Clark plans to invite back graduates of the Millersville Psychology program to speak.
