In the small farming community of Ronks, Pa., half an hour east of Millersville lies on of the quaint and fun-filled Cherry Crest Adventure Farm, home of the famous Amazing Maize Maze.
There is plenty of harvest fun and food to be had this fall at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm, including pedal karts, a farm tour wagon ride, a petting zoo, games, a pick-your-own program, bonfires and of course, the Amazing Maize Maze itself, which has been featured in USA Today’s Top Ten Mazes. The farm is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays this fall.
Each year, the maze path is structured in a way to fit a special theme. This year’s theme is “Music Through the Ages” with the path structured in the shape of a guitar and music notes. As guests navigate through the maze, music from all eras including 1950s jazz and modern pop music can be heard.
Maze explorers must find their way through the 5-acre, 2.5-mile maze of corn, bridges and scenic routes in order to find their way out. The maze also offers an interactive game that offers three levels of play – easy, intermediate, or advanced. The easy usually takes about 25 minutes to get through the maze; intermediate takes about 45 minutes; and advanced can take up more than 2 hours to those who are directionally challenged. Along the paths are 15 hidden pieces to find and, when found, will complete a puzzle map, which will be the ticket out of the maze. Maze-goers should also be on the lookout for Kernels of Knowledge along with a variety of clues, tunnel slides, watering stations, and much more. If guests happen to get off track, do not worry – the two Maze Masters are always on hand to get guests back on the correct route.
On Fridays and Saturdays from 6:30 – 10 p.m., the Amazing Maize Maze also offers Flashlight Maze for fun, non-scary maze exploration in the dark for only $12. Guests and groups are recommended to bring flashlights and dress warmly for the Flashlight Maze, but they can also pick up glow-in-the-dark necklaces and bracelets at the trail shop. The Flashlight Maze is perfect for anyone, whether they are part of a Youth Group, family, or even a group of college kids looking to blow off some steam.
Outside the Amazing Maize Maze, there are plenty of fun activities for guests to enjoy. The Cherry Crest Adventure Farm Express gives guests a short wagon ride through the cornfield, and the Farm Wagon Tour gives guests a 20 minute ride through the Cherry Crest Farm property where guests will learn about the history of the farm as well as interesting facts about agriculture and farming. There is even a petting zoo where guests young and old can meet and feed the goats, llamas, pigs and other farm animals in the Farm Experience Center. There is also a baby chick hatchery and bucking bronco located on the property. Likewise, guests can enjoy the Singing Chicken Show, race down a hill on burlap sacks on the Straw Bale Racer, and play some carnival games in the barnyard.
If guests ever get hungry while exploring the farm, there is also plenty of food to enjoy. Home Cookin’ Café and Barnyard Café offer juicy burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, scrumptious wraps, nachos, corn dogs, and hot dogs. Fudge, caramel apples and candy can be found at the Sweet Shop. Coffee N’ Cremes offers hand-dipped ice cream, smoothies, specialty coffee drinks, coffee, and chai. Guests can also enjoy kennel corn, funnel cakes and apple cider donuts.
The third Annual Pumpkin Madness Festival is on Nov. 1. Guests will be able to enjoy activities like pumpkin bowling and The Great Pumpkin Drop, and eat some savory pumpkin pie, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin whoopee pies and more.
You can plan your visit to Cherry Crest Adventure Farm today. The fall season closes on Nov. 8, so there’s still plenty of time to experience the fun and wonder of Cherry Crest Adventure Farm and the Amazing Maize Maze.
