Dr. Minoo Ghoreishi’s class of international management will be presenting their projects on business this December 4th from 3-5:30 p.m.

It is easy to become immersed in your own life as a college student. Often we seem to fall into a repetitive cycle of trying to “find oneself” which revolves around figuring out the inner complexities of being on your own (while seeking a college degree and emerging into young adulthood).

Sometimes it is when we are sitting in a class that we develop a newfound awareness of the experiences of others, which will ultimately help us discover who we are and what we stand for.
This is precisely what professor of management Dr. Minoo Ghoreishi hopes to achieve for the students of her class of international management, who have participated in a “Poster Presentation in doing Business Internationally” every year.

“For the last 10 years, this class has offered a formal poster presentation in the SMC. Students have researched the business strategies in different countries and will present their research to the Millersville community in addition to their classmates,” she said.

This year, presentations will take place on Dec. 4 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room (MPR) of the SMC. Light refreshments will be served from various countries that students have chosen for their research. Attendees can expect to taste cookies, pastries and meals from other countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, Dubai, Japan, Vietnam, South Africa, Australia and Sweden.

The event will be sponsored by Millersville’s chapter of ENACTUS, an international organization “committed to using entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better more sustainable world,” according to their website.

Every April, MU students involved in the organization compete in an annual ENACTUS competition, where they have been crowned regional champions five times.

Ghoreishi hopes that more students will want to become actively involved in the ENACTUS organization and can do so by contacting the president Robert Bradley through his email, rmbradle@millersville.edu.

Rebecca Russ, a senior business marketing major, chose to focus on the oil companies in Australia for her project.

“I was able to learn the similarities and the differences of how gas companies, mainly Shell, operate in Australia versus the United States. I learned that Australia is more worried about how it can negatively affect its community and they are working to limit its negative impact, whereas America is only worried about producing the oil and gas for people to use and doesn’t care as much about its impact on the community.

I also learned about Australia’s demographics and business etiquette. I found it interesting that in Australia they don’t focus on feelings and emotions but rather on getting straight to the point,” she said.

Ghoreishi believes that attending this seminar will be a fun learning experience for students and members of the community who may not have been given the opportunity to travel outside of the United States.

“Globalization is a trend in the business world. This type of seminar provides basic knowledge of businesses and their culture in the international world,” said Ghoreishi.
