Scrolling through my Facebook feed over the break, I came across many posts describing in detail several people’s opinions about the state of politics here in America. Most of them were directed to the issue of racial equality being displayed in the unrest in Ferguson. Many other posts I read, however, were blasting President Obama for his immigration policies and other actions he has recently taken.

Obviously, I certainly support the right to free speech for all. If someone dislikes the state of politics here in America, he or she definitely has the right to complain about them. When the public uses this freedom of speech to sound like a complete idiot is when I get a little worried.

One individual has stated on the Internet: “The recent landslide election of Republicans has lured many into a false hope that we will get our beloved nation back. However, you must know these ‘facts of truth about Obama’: 1). This Muslim Obama is not a natural born citizen. 2). He is using a dead man’s social security number from the state of Connecticut. 3). He has no authorized Selective Service System Notice of Classification. 4). The birth certificate presented by him in April 2011 is an obvious forgery. With misstatements and names of the hospital he was allegedly born in.”

As the latest Gallup Poll showed from November 2014, 42% of Americans approve the way Obama has been handling his job as President.

I sincerely wish America would wake up. Ever since Obama has taken office in 2009, the unemployment rate in this country is falling as fast as any point in the last 30 years. There have been 56 straight months of job growth, with about 200,000 jobs being created each month.

The enactment and implementation of the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, has improved the quality of life for tens of millions of Americans – not just better care, but greater financial security. Even those who were already insured have gained both security and freedom, because they now have a guarantee of coverage if they lose or change jobs.

Human rights have also grown tremendously under Obama. Ever since Obama has been elected, 33 states, along with Washington D.C., have legalized same-sex marriage, an impressive victory for the LGBT community. The President has also signed an executive order earlier this year that requires federal contractors to publish wage data by sex and race, addressing the issue of the wage gap and equal pay.

The list of his accomplishments goes on. As a Democrat and an American, I believe that Obama has created nothing but successes for the US, and has been thus far a noteworthy President. With two years left, I hope that the progress he has started continues. I seriously cannot understand why people have faith in the party that put us into the mess that Obama has dug us out of. You don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone.
