UFC 183 took atop the sports talk last night as a 13-month anticipated return of UFC Legend Anderson “The Spider” Silver took place just after a year removed from breaking his leg in action. Silva was set to take on Nick Diaz in the main event that tracked a tremendous audience at the MGM Studio in Las Vegas. The card was also to have a few undercard battles that took place with interesting story lines and intriguing matchups.

To start out the night, Thiago Alves took on Jordan Mein in the first bout of the evening. The fight was more toward Mein in the first round until Round 2 when Alves struck Mein with a kick to the midsection that stunned him to the point the referee had to stop the fight after Alves went after him to end it. The following match was a pretty even Middleweight class matchup of Thales Leites vs. Tim Boetsch. Both of these fighters were alright for their class and needed a jump start to get their careers back on track. This was one of the most interesting fights of the night because not much happened until Leites caught Boetsch on the canvas and put him in a deadly chokehold to win the competition and fight.

The third fight of the night was between two small lightweight fighters, Al Iaquinta and Joe Lauzon. This fight was not that impressive and most people watching were not excited about this fight. Iaquinta won in Round 2 after a few blows to Lauzon that ended it. Silva Diaz

The following match was supposed to set up the main event with Tyron Woodley against Kelvin Gastelum. The event turned out to be a disaster that saw Woodley win by split decision after Round 3. The whole fight was talked about that Gastelum came in 10 pounds overweight and could not get himself to the right weight class in time for the fight, this was also his first loss of his UFC career (11-1).

Finally the main event featured some good fighting and taunting throughout. Anderson Silva was in his first fight since breaking his leg while in the ring 13 months earlier. Nick Diaz was the challenger who once stated, “He would not get back into the ring unless it was for someone worth his time.” Silva gave him a run for his money throughout the 5 Round Brawl. The fight saw a lot of trash talking and taunting from both ends, mostly from Diaz as he was trying to get Silva to buy into his games. Overall the fight went to the scorecard which saw Silva win by decision and led to an emotional victory celebration that saw great sportsmanship from both Diaz and Silva as they thanked the audience that attended the event in Las Vegas.
