How was the idea thought of? By whom?

– “The idea was thought of by the Alcohol and Other Drugs Peer Educators of the Center for Health Education and Promotion. We were reflecting on the impact we make on the campus and we realized the importance of providing a space for students to openly discuss marijuana. “

Were you the leader in terms of organizing this event?

– “No, it was a collaborative effort by every member of our project! There are 5 members of AOD and we all have been working very hard to ensure that this event is a success!“

420Forum POSTER

Why do you think this event is necessary and even relatable for students at MU?

– “Marijuana use is becoming more prevalent among college students across the country and is used by students at MU. I do not think that students receive as much education on Marijuana as they do with alcohol for example. I believe it also a debate amongst college students as well. The 420 Forum will be a place where students can ask any questions they have about Marijuana and have resources available for more information.”

Can you reveal who the students are and what year they’re in? Or… can you at least explain how those students were chosen?

– “The panel is made up of students who volunteered to share their experiences with Marijuana use and how it altered their lives. These students recognized that they had a problem, and sought for the appropriate help to improve their lifestyle. Now, they wish to share their experiences with the students of MU in hopes that others will reflect on their own lives and learn from our panelists’ own experiences.”

Do you have any personal of familial connection to this topic that drove you to organize/help with this event?

– “It is our job as Peer Educators to educate students on different topics and issues that they may face. We came to the conclusion that Marijuana is an issue that is equally as important as alcohol, but realized that we do not have as many programs or events that discuss it. We felt it was our responsibility to provide the campus with the information and resources they may need in regards to Marijuana. We wanted to also provide a safe atmosphere where students are free to ask any questions and to see the positive and negatives effects of Marijuana.”

Now for the basics: When is it? Where? It is free to students?

– “The 420 Forum will take place on Thursday April 16 at 7PM in the MPR in the SMC. It is a free event that is open to all students at MU. There will be refreshments and free prizes!”
