For Millersville Marauder Jaime Vazquez, soccer is just a way of life. It’s something he has loved ever since he was a little kid he would play with his older brother, and it seems like it’s something that will simply never grow old to him.

“I don’t even remember the exact age I was when I started playing soccer, but I have played for about as long as I can remember,” Vazquez stated. He later went on to say his older brother played a big role in sparking his love for soccer.

“My older brother, Ruben, is the reason I started playing soccer. He was a good player and as a kid he used to take me with him to play with his friends. He really sparked my interest in the game.”

Vazquez is currently a senior and plays forward for the soccer team and is in the midst of an amazing season in which the Marauders are 7-0-1 (edit: could change after tonight’s soccer game).

Statistically, Vazquez has been nothing short of amazing. Through the Marauder’s eight games, Vazquez has scored an absurd 10 goals already and a total of 22 points. In a recent game against Pitt-Johnstown, the Marauders trailed 2-0 with 10 minutes left and it looked like they were about to take their first loss of the season. Then Vazquez literally put the team on his back and scored three unanswered goals to end up propelling Millersville to a 3-2 win in regulation.

It has truly been a storybook season for Vazquez as he has earned PSAC Player of the Week honors twice so far in the season for his scorching start.

Vazquez grew up in Reading, PA and then moved to Bernville, PA when he was 10-years-old. He attended Tulpehocken High School and, after graduating, decided that Millersville was the right school for him to attend.

“I really liked the campus when I came to visit, and I also saw that the men’s soccer program was very successful,” Vazquez said. Off of the soccer field, Vazquez is majoring in Occupational Safety and Environmental Health. While he loves playing soccer, it may not always be a main priority in his life after graduating from Millersville.

“My plan after graduation is to find a job that I enjoy. After collegiate soccer, I still plan on playing a little bit on the side.”

Even once he’s out of school and hopefully has a job within his major, Vazquez’s love for the game of soccer cannot be rid of that easily. He looks to continue his scorching senior season with the Marauders.
