It has been an up and down season for the Lady Marauders volleyball team this season as they are currently sitting at a record of 15-15, with a 6-14 record in conference play. They had dropped four straight before righting the ship against Cheyney on November 7, 2015.
Millersville won a critical game against Cheyney in three sets (25-13, 25-10, 25-16) and sophomore Kelsi Ceriana led the way for most of the match, posting an impressive 16 kills in the match. She also ended with a great hitting percentage of .556. The Marauders had jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after a couple errors from Cheyney. The Wolves would end up going on a run of their own but the Marauders proved to be too much for them in the first set and the same would be said for the next two sets, as well.
The Marauder volleyball team is led by Brian Smith who is currently in his sixth season as head coach of the team. Smith has seen a few of his players achieve very impressive feats, such as Brooklyn Smith being named to the Second Team All PSAC and Katie Lesinksi became the eight member of the 1,000 kill club under the tutelage of Smith. Smith has previously attended Millersville University, graduating in 1987 with a degree in speech communication.
Smith is hoping that his team can gain a head of steam before the PSAC tournament as they have had what many call a roller coaster ride of a season. The team started off hot, then fizzled towards the middle of the season dealing with winning and losing streaks. Consistency has seemed to escape the team but that could very well change in the next few weeks with games coming up against Wilmington, East Stroudsburg and then Kutztown. The Lady Marauders will have to be well prepared for the next couple of games so they can attempt to make a splash in the PSAC tournament.
Millersville has a match coming up Friday, November 13 against the East Stroudsburg Warriors followed by a trip to Kutztown on Saturday. The PSAC quarterfinals will begin Tuesday, November 17.
