Millersville University (MU) alumnus, Cara Clase, has been chosen to perform at the National Kennedy Center American Theatre Festival (KCATF) in Washington D.C.

“Being able to perform at the Kennedy Center, one of the biggest performing arts center in America, will be very beneficial will be the most professional venue I have ever performed in,” said Clase, “I am excited to stand on the stage of the Kennedy Center and see behind scenes.”

Clase was an economics major at MU, now working at United Way assisting in filing taxes for the under privileged. However, her real passion is musical theatre and singing. She recently won the KCATF Region II’s Musical Theatre Initiative and was chosen out of 100 people to perform at the Kennedy Center and win the Open Jar Institute scholarship.

She will be singing two pieces, a gospel ballad titled “I’m Here” from the Color Purple and an upbeat jazz piece, “Life of the Party” from the Wild Part. Clase, known for her rolls in MU’s production of “MacBeth” and “Adia”, is the first Millersville student to be chosen to move on to national festival and will perform on the Kennedy Center’s stage and be enrolled in various workshops with professionals between the dates of April 11 and 15.

“Career wise, I am sending out graduate applications for economic Ph.D programs and I want to eventually do research and teach,” Clase commented, “However, theatre and singing is something that will always be a part of my life.”
