Fun and inexpensive. These two words are the perfect adjectives to describe the University Activities Board (UAB) at Millersville, but what do they do?

Despite being fun and inexpensive, many incoming and returning students are not familiar with all of the organizations on campus that the UAB manages. UAB is a core organization that is funded by the University through the student activities fee for each semester. The club is responsible for creating events and activities for the student body that are free or of very low cost.

Hollie Citerone, President of UAB, is responsible for overseeing all meetings and events, and maintaining order within the organization. Citerone says that, “the hardest part of being the president of UAB is getting members to become involved.”

Citerone believes that it is important for the student body to become part of a club like UAB.

“It allows students to participate in fun activities rather than partying or getting into trouble,” says Citerone. “I’m constantly learning new skills from being in this position that I can use in my future career.”

UAB has several chairs within the organization, including: diversity, comedy, special events, travel, marketing, and finance. Each chair is responsible for certain types of events or fiscal duties. There are several upcoming events for the rest of the spring semester.

“We have a Flyers game approaching this month, a trip to New York in April, and comedians and magicians coming to Millersville,” said Citerone

With April quickly approaching, there is one event that the organization is excitedly planning for. Elyzabeth Thompson, the Special Events chair, is in charge of Superfest. This year’s theme is Disney Pixar.

“Superfest is a three-day event filled with inflatables, food, games, prizes and much more,” said Thompson. “We are currently working on getting a design for our t-shirts this year which the students design, and renting games to play.”

Many of the general members of the organization are thrilled to be part of the planning experience. Annalise Kienzle, a junior at Millersville, loves being able to contribute.

“Attending events that I helped to put together is such an amazing feeling,” said Kienzle.

General members of the club participate by attending the events, setting up tables, checking people into the events, and spreading the word. In addition, they assist the chair members by pitching ideas and doing research to find new acts.

“UAB is a fun organization,” said Kienzle. “We have a strong bond within the club that not a lot of other groups have the opportunity to build.”

UAB meets every Wednesday in SMC room 118 at 9:15pm and there is no fee or commitment necessary. Stop by the meetings to get the inside scoop on events.

“Stop by, eat some snacks and make new friends,” added Citerone. “You won’t regret it.”
