Millersville’s ice hockey team is performing great feats on and off the rink. The ice hockey team practices twice a week and then has group workouts in the fitness center once a week. On the weekends, the team plays two or three games. Millersville’s ice hockey team switches between home and away games, typically having thirty games in a season total.

The league they are in is the Colonial State College Hockey Conference. It is a mixture of Pennsylvania and New Jersey colleges including West Chester, Monmouth, Seton Hall and University of Pennsylvania. They compete against universities such as Liberty University, Rowan University and Virginia Tech. Last year, the ice hockey team took a trip to Virginia in order to play against Virginia Tech and Liberty University.

The players do not receive any scholarships to play. The money they receive from the university for being a club sport covers ice times, buses to away games and league fees. In order for someone to be on the ice hockey team, they have to pay for added expenses out of pocket. The team does not typically fundraise for these costs but apparel sales assist them. This does not stop the team from being charitable.

Matt Iehle, the president of the ice hockey team stated that the team is coming up with ideas on how to raise money for charities. They are also looking for ways to keep the organization going. “It is a great group of guys, everyone is real supportive,” Iehle said.

The team looks to recruit freshmen that have experience playing ice hockey. Iehle also wishes to see more people at their games.
