The Millersville University women’s swimming team this weekend went on the road to Fairmont State University at West Virginia and defeated our rivals in a dual of events; Fairmont State University, and Alderson-Broaddus. Unluckily, we weren’t able to defeat our other rivals in the event; Shippensburg University and California University of Pennsylvania, but overall, the women swimming achieved a great performance and skill during these ambitious events.

How they achieved these wins started off on Friday night when the Marauder’s  went against Fairmont, Shippensburg, and Cal U in a three dual meet. Highlights of the meet were Judith Miller who came in third place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.05. Next, Amanda Wetzler came in sixth place in the 50-yard freestyle and in fourth place with a time of 1:04.08. Also in the 50-yard freestyle event, Alexis Shollenberger recorded a 26.31 time, achieving fourth place. Lastly, in the 200-yard individual medley, Gabriella Licata record a time of 2:29.61, placing her in sixth place.

But this wasn’t the only highlight of Friday’s night meet. It was the freshman first individual swims recorded for their careers ever. Starting off with Alexis Bowen, who marvelously finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:49.92 and placed sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 11:59.85. Fiona Stewart then finished off in eighth place in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall at exactly 1:09.52. Maddi Stoner earned seventh place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.73 and just behind Stoner was Lucia Martin, who then, finished in tenth place in the 200-yard freestyle (2:44.57).

The final score for the Marauders against Fairmont State was 101-94. Unfortunately Millersville got defeated by Cal U and Shippensburg (64-136, 52-152).

Saturday morning at Fairmont, the Marauders won gloriously swam and conquered Alderson-Broaddus University. How this was obtained was based off of five Marauders earning first place finishes. In a 200-yard medley relay, Amanda Wetzler, Kristen Strayer, Judith Miller and Alexis Shollenberger recorded a flawless time of 2:30.50, resulting in them to finished first in the event.

Madison Cartmill then placed first in the 200-yard individual medley and swam with a time of 2:30.78. Wetzler dominated the 500 yard freestyle and achieved a 1:06.83 winning and finishing the event. This was her second individual event that she has won.

The Marauders will then take a week off break. Until then, their next journey will be against Lock Haven University on Saturday, November 3rd, at 1 p.m.
