During the 2016-2017 academic year, 56% of Millersville Freshmen and 65% of Millersville Seniors indicated that they connected their learning to societal problems or issues “Very often” or “Often”.

How has your experience at Millersville prepared you to tackle the challenges facing today’s society? If you are a freshman or senior, you have the opportunity to answer questions like this with the NSSE, or National Survey of Student Engagement. By filling out the NSSE, you can give Millersville University your feedback about the quality of your undergraduate experience. The NSSE is a survey that focuses on freshmen and seniors’ college experiences, including questions about what students’ gain from time spent in the classroom as well as how students’ spend their time outside of the classroom.

Your answers to these questions allow the university to better understand student behaviors and preferences to facilitate change on campus. NSSE also delves into what students gain from their college experience. The quality of students’ college experience is measured by more than just academic success, and NSSE aims to explore other aspects of the college experience that influence what students gain here at Millersville.

For instance, did you know in 2016-2017, 54% of Millersville Seniors
participated in an internship or field experience? The information gathered from this survey not only allows the university to better understand its students, but is also used to inform prospective students about the current student body.

So, why is it so important for you to participate in this survey? The more responses to the survey, the better Millersville can understand you, the student! Your responses will help guide important decisions being made about the students and life here at Millersville. The survey only takes
about 15 minutes, and your responses will be kept confidential. Your voice matters, and this is your time to let your voice heard by sharing your experiences!

In appreciation for participating, we will enter all students who complete the survey by April 30th into a drawing to be selected for one of the following incentives: one senior and one freshman will each be selected to receive one of these items – an Apple iPad mini worth approximately $450 donated by Student Services, Inc.; a Bose SoundLink Micro Bluetooth Speaker worth approximately $99; a Keurig K-Classic Single Serve Coffee Maker worth approximately $90; a Roku Streaming Stick with Voice Remote worth approximately $49; a 3rd Generation Echo Dot worth approximately $49; a Millersville University Store Gift Card worth $75 donated by Student Services, Inc. Also, one senior will receive preferred seating for four guests with VIP parking at commencement.

Your likelihood of receiving an incentive depends on how many complete the survey; the total number of “respondents from a recent administration” (2017) was 840: 384 freshmen and 456 seniors. If the same proportions respond this time, the “expected” odds would be 1 in 61 (freshmen) and 1 in 60 (seniors), respectively.

In 2016-2017, 82% of Millersville Seniors and 88% of Millersville Freshmen rated their overall experience at Millersville as either excellent or good. How would you rate yours? Let Millersville know and don’t miss out on the opportunity to share your college experience through the NSSE survey!
