The Marauder field hockey team is headed back to the PSAC championship game yet again after a very big win against Shippensburg University on Saturday, Nov. 14. This is the third straight year the Marauders have been in the championship game.
Millersville is now 17-2 and heading into the championship game against the Golden Rams from West Chester University.
The Marauders will need a total team effort, but they will surely look to their star goalkeeper. Senior Lauren Sotzin has been phenomenal defending the net for the Marauders. After Friday’s win against Shippensburg, Sotzin has recorded a total of 13 shutouts on the year. She’s also racked up 45 saves and has a save percentage of 0.789.
Millersville’s own Alicia Youtz and Katelyn Zapp sparked the Marauder offense as they both scored, assisted by Champayne Hess and Lauren Gerhart, respectively. Millersville totaled six shots and four penalty corners in the contest. Shippensburg was ranked number two in the nation in goals against average.
The Marauders faced off against West Chester in the 2012 championship game and the 2013 semifinal game. The teams split their two meetings in the regular season by scores of 3-2 and then 2-1. This is shaping up to be a very intense matchup and definitely one from which Millersville is looking to come away victorious.
