The faculty senate convened their first meeting of the semester on February 3 in Osburn hall. Firstly, new classes were approved and can be found on the faculty senate page of the Millersville University website.
The faculty raised an issue to the provost, Dr. Vilas Prabhu, and his associate provost, Jeff Adams, about the continued technology issues that have been occurring more frequently throughout campus. The faculty were assured that the issues are being looked into and that communication of issues will be better communicated through MU Alert or other means. They also assured that there will be better communication with the SMC Information Desk and that they are looking into more personnel for IT during nonbusiness hours.
The floor was then given to the Interim Vice President for Student Affairs, Michelle Perez. She had announced that they are looking into redesigning convocation. A town hall meeting will take place Thursday, February 19 at 4 p.m. in the SMC Atrium. If you would like to have your say in a new way to proceed with convocation for future years, she encourages everyone to come and give his or her opinion. She went on to say that there is no final word on whether student affairs will be falling under the jurisdiction of enrollment management or not.
There was a discussion on logistics of the geography department being moved to the School of Science & Mathematics as of July 1.
An issue of retention was brought to the floor due to the number of freshman on academic warning as of the spring semester, which is the highest amount in years.
Common hour has been approved for the Fall 2015. The common hour is a time of no classes to allow for organizations and meetings to occur without disruption. The common hour will occur every Tuesday and Thursday 12:05pm-1:10pm.
Faculty Senate meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of every month in the Osburn Hall multi purpose room. The next meeting will take place Tuesday, February 17.
