The long-awaited Super Bowl attracts the attention of millions of viewers

READY, SET, HIKE! That is the sound heard from more than 110 million viewers as the long-awaited Super Bowl finally begins. Many people gather for Super Bowl parties and are prepared to sit down for hours at a time to watch. However, not everyone is tuning in for the same reasons. People love football but this is the one time a year that they actually want to watch the commercials.

According to The Wall Street Journal, marketers need to have a spot in advance and the price depends on the time it is aired and how many spots the marketer bought. The prices rose from last year but businesses are willing to buy. Around $4.5 million is spent on a 30-second ad in order to grab the attention of a large population. For this money to not go to waste, advertisements are created to have interest in the product in a way that appeals to the viewer’s emotions. The most successful ones leave a great impression while the least popular are soon forgotten.

This year’s top commercials are marked for their songs and characters as they play on the emotions of the viewers. One of the best comedic approaches is for the Kia Sorento with Pierce Brosnan. This is called, “The Perfect Getaway” that emphasizes Brosnan’s role in action-packed films and brings about a humorous take on it. Everything that would be considered in Brosnan’s movies that involve snipers and explosions are tamed down. The story is just about a trip to get away in a Kia.

The next one is one of the Doritos commercials. Doritos usually has commercials that involve children and are about the plot to get the Doritos or convince others to have some. This one is about how a man doesn’t want anyone to sit with him on a plane so he tries everything he can to get people to find another seat. He pretends he is sick, uses floss, cuts his nails and much more. However, when he sees an attractive woman, he brings out Doritos so she sits with him. In the end, he finds out she has a baby so he didn’t really want to sit with her.

Ones that are more inspiring and heartfelt include the “Lost Dog” by Budweiser. This is a sequel to the commercial that was played last year. It slows down the song I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) performed by Sleeping At Last. It portrays the story about how a golden retriever became lost and the farmer was trying to find it. The dog was able to come back home and reunite with his friends at the end.

Always aired a commercial promoting their product in a way that shows how people perceive girls in a negative aspect . In the commercial, adults are asked to do things, “like a girl.” They make little effort to throw a ball or run but young girls, when asked the same question, try to do everything the best they can. This puts into question what it means to be a girl. It helps people realize the negative aspect so a change can be made.

One that was not as humorous was for Nationwide Insurance. This is when a child is saying about he will never learn to fly or grow up because he got into an accident when he was little so he missed out on life. It was very depressing because it shows how some people don’t get to live full lives. Also, it makes a point about how people should think of safety first. That way, people can continue on with life and they have time to do what they want to do.

Overall, there were many commercials that could be recognized and it is hard to choose the best ones from the many used. There is strong competition to create the most memorable commercials and not being able to fulfill the audience’s expectations will lower the attitude toward those companies. The Super Bowl is what people look forward to each year and they enjoy not only the football but the most memorable commercials. Each commercial was able to bring about a strong emotion that can make people think differently or just make them laugh
