This time our Millersville Athlete of the Week features football player Tyler Tate. Tate, a junior defensive lineman, has played in all the games this season, while leading the team in sacks. Tate has made over 30 tackles this season and 20 plus assists.
We talked to Tyler about his football career, and he commented.
How long have you been playing football?
“I’ve been playing football since third grade, and my first team I played for was the Lower Providence Warriors.”
What inspires you the most?
“Knowing that I can help people around me in the future if I keep doing what I’m doing in football.”
Who is your favorite football player, and why?
“I’m my favorite football player because I’m me.”
Do you have a pregame ritual?
“Listening to Beyonce before every game during pre-game warm up.”
How do you manage your time as a Millersville student-athlete?
“I do all my work during my free time on weekdays before practices and meetings,” said Tate.
What is one thing you wish you could tell your younger self?
Tate commented, “Enjoy every moment in life, the good and the bad.”
What are your goals for the rest of the season?
Tate responded, “My goals are to be the best, helping my team out any way I can, and becoming an All-American!”
Why did you choose Millersville?
“A coach took a chance on me to help change the culture with all the other athletes he brought in.”
What is your favorite spot on campus?
“The football field where I get to be violent and not get in trouble for.”
“Shoutout to everybody who made me who I am, a rockstar.”
